Description
The platform https://homodata-anthropocene.eu/dashboard.php provides various resources to inform and train about environmental and digital issues. It is addressed to teachers and students. The website https://www.footprintcalculator.org/en/quiz/0/food/category is a tool of the Global footprint network (https://www.footprintnetwork.org/). It provides a tool to calculate our ecological footprint through questions about lifestyle.
Procedure on how to put in practice
Duration: 1 session: 1,5-2 hours

Methods used: participated lesson.

Step-by-step description:

1. The teacher will introduce the topic (15’)
2. Students will watch the video on the interactive whiteboard (6 minutes) https://homodata-anthropocene.eu/moduleAxe2.php?mod=8
3. Open discussion of the video content: what kind of food do you eat? What about goods and transports? Do you feel that you have a high or a low impact on earth’s resources? (15’)
4. Then students will connect with their devices to the website https://www.footprintcalculator.org/en/quiz/0/food/category and will calculate their ecological footprint (10’)
5. Open discussion of the results: what is your score? Is it higher/lower than expected? What aspects of your lifestyle do you think that have increased/reduced your footprint? Is it higher/lower that the average of your country? Etc. (15’)
6. The teacher then will ask students to find solutions to lower their impact on earth. Es.: what can you do to reduce CO2 emissions? Can you think of going to school using public transports? If not, can you go with other schoolmates? Who has the best solution? What would you suggest to your classmates etc. (15’)
7. What can you do to reduce you impact at school? (10 minutes)
8. Students will be asked to write on the whiteboard their proposals (about their lifestyle and their behaviour at school).
9. Debriefing. After the list of proposals is approved by all students, one of them will post it on the Classroom platform. (15 minutes).
