Description
Charades is a word guessing game where one player must act out a word or action without speaking and other players have to guess what the action is.
Procedure on how to put in practice
The rules of charades can vary quite widely, but there are many common features that appear in most forms of the game. Players are allowed to hold up the number of fingers to indicate the number of syllables in the answer to give the guessing players an indication of the word that they might be looking for. If the answer is multiple words, then the player may also say indicate how many words are in the answer as they did with the syllables. Players can play as individuals or in teams.
Common signals used in charades:
• pointing or tugging on an ear can mean 'the answer sounds like'
• moving hands or fingers farther apart means 'more'
• if someone guesses correctly, it's common for the acting player to touch their nose whilst pointing to the person who guessed correctly
Charades categories:
• film title (pretend to crack an old-fashioned film camera)
• book title (unfold your hands as if they were a book)
• play title (pretend to pull the rope that opens a theatre curtain)
• song title (pretend to sing)
• TV show (draw a rectangle to outline the TV screen)
