Description
Games to learn English is a free games website. This website's goal is to offer tools that will help students practice English in an interesting and enjoyable manner. The online games are simple to play. They provide practice in a variety of areas, including as prepositions, vocabulary, phrases, tenses (present, past, present perfect, etc.), and more. It's the ideal tool to utilize with students with an elementary level of English, who easily become distracted. Students can pick the game's theme and level of difficulty (easy/hard). The game gets faster as they progress. Students can also review a set of content by clicking on the 'review' option. Images are used to make the sentences and words more accessible. There is an audio option in the game. The majority of games include challenging and enjoyable components, so they encourage players to select the right answer from a variety of options in order to score points. Additionally, score increases faster if players continue to provide accurate answers in a succession (without any mistakes). The site could be used with students at risk of demotivation because the online interactive activities can be chosen according to students’ language level and their topics are interesting to students. In the game presented below, learning takes place through exposure and use of question language. Students use the language in a context of questions and answers, which reinforces an association between question meaning and language. There are 2 difficulty levels to choose from - easy and difficult. The students can work on their own or in pairs. The materials on the site can be used and applied in a fully virtual/at distance teaching context and in a blended learning environment.
Procedure on how to put in practice
Duration: 20 min
No of Participants: 10-50
Methods used: discussion

Step-by-step description:
1. The student accesses the site and clicks on the topic under discussion, e.g. questions.
2. The student practices the different question words in a clear context. The students are presented with an image to represent meaning and an incomplete question/sentence as the answer to the previous question. They have to click on one of 5 words to complete the question. The second and third parts include a countdown timer; the purpose of this is to add some excitement or challenge to the game.
3. The students are presented with a full question and then have to click on the image that matches. The second part aims to reinforce the link between meaning and question form.
4. The third part displays responses to the questions. The students are shown different questions and then have to move the answers to match.
5. Class discussion on the way they did the task.
